Bondi Beach is certainly the best beach I have been to, and I
travel quite a bit. One of the few things in Sydney you can do cheaply is go to
the beach, and that's why it's a popular pastime with the locals as well as
with tourists. I spent an afternoon there, and it was very busy. I suspect it
is less busy in the mornings. You should certainly go and check out Bondi
Icebergs bar, which is a fantastic place to have a few beers while you watch
and listen to the waves crash against the famous rocks near the building. There
are dangerous tides here at various times during the day so always keep an eye
out for any warning signs, and only swim in the designated areas where Bondi's
famous lifeguards can see you.
